Bigot Bans Brokeback
So Utah Jazz owner Larry Miller thinks Brokeback Mountain just isn't 'appropriate' for the audiences of his multiplex in a Salt Lake City suburb. To save them the trouble of making up their own minds, he yanked the movie from his theater. Cowboys in love is just too icky, apparently, when instead the public can go see some slasher gore and violence (Miller didn't yank Hostel from the line-up....that didn't trigger any paternalistic squeamishness on behalf of the community)
What a load. What a coward. What a bigot.
Hey, Larry? grow a pair, why don't you? Try actually, y'know, WATCHING the movie! you might be surprised to discover a teensy kernel of humanity lurking in the general vicinity of your heart 'n' soul and whatever exists of your brain.
Meanwhile, Miller's loss is the gain of other local theater chains, where the movie is doing great box office business. (See Salt Lake Tribune story) And the Utah Film Critics Society has named Brokeback Mountain the year's best movie.
Just saying.
